Seattle City Council Considers Developer Fees

September 16, 2014

Seattle is western Washington's largest and most populas cities. As of this writing there are currently over 1,800 home for sale in Seattle, 11% of which are new homes, about 180 homes in total.

The City of Seattle does not currently require that developers building new homes and developments pay a fee in proportion to the public services their development will use.

Roads, parks, fire departments, police stations and schools are all services that see increased strain when new communities are built, and Seattle city council members are discussing the possibility of having developers pay a one-time fee to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of such services.

Bellevue and 80 cities in the state currently level such fees.

There is no set date for a vote on this matter.
